Raelene Roberts: Metalsmith
Raelene Roberts was born in Fairbanks, Alaska. Her early years were spent outdoors in this dramatic landscape. As a young woman she spent summers on many adventures. Traveling by bicycle across the US; experiencing life “off the grid” with her horse April Moondancer and commercial fishing off the coast of Southeast Alaska to mention just a few. Later she worked to build the Metal Arts BFA degree at University of Alaska, Anchorage. She recieved the first BFA in the Metal Arts from UAA on May 5 and gave birth to her second child 5 days later. Despite the rigorous schedule of raising and moving a growing family from Alaska to California and then on to Wisconsin, Raelene has always made time for her art.
Raelene’s designs are a blend of influences from nature, art, history, mythology and her own life experience. Raelene uses her skills in fabrication, etching, casting, enamaling and anodizing to turn her designs into art.
Raelene takes great pleasure in demonstrating her skills at fairs and community events and even greater pleasure in passing this ancient art on to future generations in a small classroom setting. Raelene has been practicing her profession for over 25 years and is still finding new and exciting challenges that keep the work fresh for her.
